Lumpkin Family Connection | Lumpkin Challenge Course | Mentor Program
This has been a tough year for nonprofits, with donations down and needs up, but no Bah Humbugs were heard at LCHS on Sunday afternoon. In fact, the tables lined with desserts and cast members dressed in period costumes were more reminiscent of holiday celebrations of years past. It seems December 7th, the last performance of “A Christmas Carol” and the first “Family Connection Holiday Dessert Contest” was a crowd pleaser.
Lumpkin County High School and Lumpkin Family Connection joined forces for a fund raising Sunday Matinee and Dessert Intermission. The cast and audience dined on a variety of homemade sweet breads, candies and cookies during intermission and finished up the afternoon by sampling the “Dessert Contest Entries.” Not to be outdone, Jan Gaddis, owner of Beautilicious Cakes donated a train engine car cake, which we auctioned for $100.00

Judges’ Anne Amerson, Louis Harper and Millie Hamilton worked diligently to select the winners from the 21 dessert entries. The entire first act and intermission was spent grading each dessert entry and I overheard the comment “We have a lot of good bakers in Lumpkin County!”. In the end, First Place went to the Grier Family Fruit Cake prepared by Bill Grier, 2nd place tied with a Coconut Cake entered by Charlotte Phillips and Nutty Nugget PB Bars by Betty Lee. Christmas Cookies by Hannah Koehn and Holiday Pumpkin Roll by Kimberly Ward tied for 3rd place and yet another tie for Honorable Mentions between a Carrot Cake by Beverly Scott and Blue Ribbon Coconut Cake by Sarrah Ellen McDonald. A Special “History” Award went to Mamie’s Lemon Cheese Cake by Carol Dyer.
In the words of Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim, Bless us, everyone! And from Lumpkin County Family Connection, Happy Holidays and Thank You!
